    Upload help needed, please help!

    Hi

I would like to get some help regarding the first time upload of my website. I am using V8 (I am in the USA) and every time I try to up load I get the message invalid server name. I had a look through this site and I see that people have had problems with Go-Daddy who I am using. I go the deluxe hosting Linux-1 package. I sent an email that was written by Bruce at the top of this forum and they said yes to d) Do I have the ability to POST data to my CGI scripts? (Yes)
Is there something that I need to check in the software to upload that I have not done? I have a dedicated IP address and they told me that’s what I put in the server host box on the Advance Network Set Up. Should I put anything before the IP like ftp:// I have tried this and I still get the same message.

I have tired using the Proxy/Fire wall Configuration and I get this message:
The wizard is unable to establish a connection to the internet. Please tell the wizard about your proxy setup. The last error was: the FTP session was terminated.

Could I have a problem with the proxy settings/firewall for my Windows XP?

I hope somebody can help as I am going crazy trying to sort this puzzle out.

    Andy

This means exactly what it says ie actinic cannot connect so I would check your firewall settings and get actinic connected as a first step. As you say there are lots of posts on Godaddy so work your way through them once you are connected

    Personally I would move hosts

What are your network settings Andy (*** out your pw etc)

What firewall are you using, are you connecting via ftp to domain or IP, how long has your hosting account been live (ie can you fire up via an ftp outside of Act?

I turned my Windows firewall off and that allowed me to connect to my server. I need to amend the CGI files with my server and guess what, Go Daddy access to CGI admin is not work. I was told to try again in 24-48 hours. I think I am going to change to 1and1!

As for my firewall is there anything I can do so that it allows Actinic to work?

I am connecting though FTP to IP. I will let you know what happens with Go Daddy if they resolve the problem

You can set most firewalls to allow exclusions, so you can exclude catalog (that is what it shows up as) to allow ftp and http access, thus allowing your firewall to protect you for all other nasties out there.
