You can do this on 1and1 from the FTP Account under web space and access. You can setup any number of FTP logins and for each login you can specify the root directory of the login.

So for this problem just setup a new ftp login and make sure 'select existing directory' radio button is selected and browse to the shop directory to set it as the ftp root directory for this login. Under 1and1 there is always a fixed prefix to the login so you could add shop to the user login to make it easy.

Yup!! That's exactly where I had just got to after bouncing ideas off you guys!

So, that is what I have done .... and Testing the Network Settings worked great, I got a reply email .... woo hoo!!

I then ran Web | Configure Web Site Details and still got this error:

"Either your web root directory path or website address appears to be incorrect. The connection wizard attempted to upload a file to the web root directory and download it via the web server but the web server reported that the file was not found."

Does it matter whether Web | Configure Web Site Details runs correctly or not? I have tried stating the root folder is / or ./ or ../ none of which it likes.

Other than that, the test catalog all seems to be there!!

Your domain is pointing to a folder in the webspace called 'shop' as it's root.
You have cgi-bin and acatalog folders in your shop folder with permssions set to at least 755.

        Is this the case?
Yes, and I also tried cgi-bin and acatalog folders in my root folder - none of it made any difference. The key to all of this was the ftp login going to root.

Many, many thanks guys..... this is such a huge leap forward!!

            Why run configure again

if the test works, upload your site and see if its all ok. dont use configure again.

Ok, thanks Darren! I thought for completeness ...... I'm a little rusty - last time I did this was 5 years ago!

Doh! Stoopid stoopid me! Of course, I never even thought to see if I could do that ..... I've been dicking around FTPing to the main root folder all the time and then having to navigate to the destination folders!

Just done that now..... everything uploading and working fine..... hoorah!!

Huge huge thanks to you all .... you guys are fab!

Hi, I'm still having a few issues related to my original upload.

After all the messing about trying to upload to my subdomain/sub-directory: http://www.domain.co.uk/acatalog/ and /cgi-bin

and not being able to get it to work, I abandoned that idea and uploaded to my root space: http://s180278736.websitehome.co.uk/acatalog etc

However, I am getting a warning triangle in the bottom left of the cart screens which shows "Error on Page" (Line 18. Char 1 Object Expected http://s180278736.websitehome.co.uk/cgi-bin/ca000002.pl )

Testing it I have noticed that all the gif's are trying to load from the original upload to http://www.domain.co.uk/acatalog/ yet when I go into Catalog, nowhere can I see this referenced - everywhere in network settings is now pointed to http://s180278736.websitehome.co.uk

I have tried 'Help | Troubleshooting' | 'Purge Session Files' with no luck.

I've also scoured Catalog and can not find http://www.domain.co.uk referenced anywhere!

Given the ca000002.pl error, I'm wondering if it's still trying to reference the old cgi-bin aswell?

Any ideas much appreciated, I'm totally lost!

Have you got some kind of blocking going on? I get a 403 forbidden error from the /acatalog/ page.

You need to remove this and start again. Actinic will not work properly with any kind of access control/restriction and you're better off doing it correctly as described above rather than trying to work arouind whatever probblem you've got.

Actinic works very well with 1and1 as many people here can testifiy. It really is very straightforward.

Oh heck, I hope not Mike!

The actual catalog link is http://s180278736.websitehome.co.uk/acatalog/index.html

(apologies I was giving cut down links above as it was looking crowded!)

TBH - looking at the url you are using I would suspect a scam as it looks like many of the phishing websites out there.

I was just thinking the same, would i pay to enter a competition on a site with this url?

Only once - then you would be cancelling your card

Ok, that's a good point, although that's just the catalog pages - the actual "product" has been inserted into our main site pages http://www.domain.co.uk/competition.html and then it goes to the cart pages.

With my limited knowledge it was the best I could do. I did fight quite hard to get the catalog all on winacabin.co.uk but I just couldn't get it to work properly and I ran out of time.

Does this now alleviate the concern or should I go jump off the cliff?!!!
