in other words you want to play for hours in one mission or you want to vent your anger at a poor opponent?

You might say: "Whats the best graphics card for under 100 quid?"

at the moment, there are really only 4 main genres of game, on any platform.

RTS: Real time strategy.
This involves building an army and thrashing the opponents on a large battlefield. You usually have to manage your resources and build a base. Battle usually escalates and the units you can buy get more powerful. Games can last hours.

FPS: First person shoot-em-up.
This usually involves looking through the eyes of a lone combatant, frequently with a gun that you aim and shoot at other combatants. Game modes include deathmatches, where all players simply kill each other, sometimes in teams. Capture the flag, and recently, some sort of 'king of the hill' type of game style. There are usually various weapons upgrades. FPS is fairly exciting and afterwards, I usually get a headache.

RPG/MMORPG: Role playing game/Massively multiplayer online role playing game.
These are fairly big games, that require lots of hours of playtime to get the best of them. your character in the game, represented by an avatar of your choice gets stronger and depending on the genre of the mmorpg, learns better spells and collects more items in their inventory. These are usually played in third person perspective.

Puzzle:
Word or shape based puzzle games. Nuff said.

Anything else is just a hybrid of the four types.

{note, i diddnt include sports and simulation games, since they suck}

Erm, preferrably modern or WWII. Erm, in a past life enjoyed MoH, Doom, etc. Also just had a flashback to Syphon Filter.

Rather be `the dude` than behind him.

Don't want to build cities, colonies, townships etc.

oh yeh..the new MOH airborne is good too..if you want a WWII type game..
