planning on using these higher level adjustments in their calculations in the future
Until the seo scammers get hold of it and pay thousands of people in china to up sites in the same way they pay then to simulate traffic to reduce bounce rates.

Thats true, but hopefully Google will have figured out the IP Masking/Scamming routines to filter that out......I hope.

If they do then its no different to any other metric that they MAY use eg bounce rate - the pages of interest to visitors will always rise to the top.

          My two pence.

If unscrupulous webmasters are engaging in a war of promting themselves and demoting each other, the net results ought to be nil.

However, if genuine users are promoting valuable sites for their specific search, and demoting worthless spammy sites, this should have a positive effect on searches for everyone.

I think it could be valuable if Google can analyse this information carefully.

well, this may be true, but i'v drawn these high-res 3d chart renders to describe the ratios involved:

            nasty webmasters:
            [-]

            normal hoomons:
            [-----------------------------------------------------------------]

              normal hoomons:
Unfortunately normal hoomons will not even know these buttons exist let alone use them there-fore the webmasters will win

I'm with Mal. I love playing with new things like this, but I won't use this function. Its not autonomous enough and its just going to slow me down. I doubt many 'normal' people would even think to look at them, let allone press them. I egnrally find people have never noticed the cached or similar pages links either.

Not that i'd condone or practice it, but it would make it easy to convince a client their results are higher! until they tried it of course.
