Yes. Sellerdeck's 'Use Secure FTP' actually uses FTPS which everyone else refers to as FTP Secure.

Obviously by unticking 'Use secure ftp' you are using standard ftp which is not secure but will allow you to upload your site on 1and1.

My top priority was for the site to publish, which it now does. Put it this way, it is as secure as it has been for the past 18 years!

I am still having problems, and possibly am not as technically advanced as some of the previous contributors so I'll set my case as clearly as possible.

First of all, I'm only having the email problem, not the FTP problem.

I have installed v18, and ported a site over from v2016, where everything had been working fine.

I use 1and1, who's SMTP server is auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk, and - at least for my email set-ups, it requires password authentication, SSL/TLS and port 465. On the 2016 set up I was using mrvnet.kundenserver.de.

I have made the change to SmtpLibrary.pm as described in this thread.
I have changed the port number from 25 to 465 in the two locations in SmtpLibrary.pm as described in this thread.

I am testing it by going into Production mode, opening network set-up and running the test.
        I have tried both 'mrvnet.kundenserver.de' and 'auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk'.
I have tried all four combinations of the options 'Secure SMTP required' and 'Username and Password required' and I keep getting errors.

The errors are all similar, and look like this:

        HTML Code:
        CheckSendMail log
        SendMail: Sending mail started
        SendMail: Using Net::SMTP 2.33
        SendMail: Timeout is 5 seconds
        SendMail: Connecting to auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk
SendMail: Unable to establish an SMTP connection to auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk
        Net::SMTP: connect: timeout
there are variations. Let me know if you need to see them.

        Can anyone help?

        Thanks,
        PB
        Kind regards,
        Phil Benjamin

                v18.02 just released...

It's strange that for a release that has only 2 fixes:

#1 : New layout and variable values are now initialised correctly to Use Parent where applicable, SD-7486
#2 : Use of cookie ACTINIC_CARTVIZ no longer causes session problems, SD-7490

These two fixes have changed the SmtpLibrary.pm file quite drastically (from 1.5k line file to 10k+)

Can't do Mike's fix as that line does not exist in that file, even "$nPort" is not in there at all...

I assume the port numbers are somewhere else now?

I haven't looked at it yet - but I was keen as I hoped it would solve my issues. However, it looks a bit like they've copied the whole of some other code into smtplibrary by mistake. They couldn't do that could they?

Has anyone installed v18.02 and has it working okay yet?

I just re-installed to a different snapshot of my VM to double check, and looks okay this time...

Checking the file, it looks like OrderScript.pl

                      Will do more tests tomorrow...

File SmtpLibrary.pm has not changed between 18.0.1 and 18.0.2. It did have lots of changes for all prior versions but none that change the file size dramatically.

I've had 18.0.2 installed for just coming up to 2 days and no apparent issues. SmtpLibrary.pm looks normal with 1587 lines.

                                Here's something interesting...

So I'm still having no joy with this, even with the latest update. However, I'm getting time out errors, so I upped the timeout value in smtplibrary.pm.

When you up it to 10 or 15 seconds it's fine (though it didn't solve my problem), but go up high enough (say 30) then you get a completely different thing happen!

Here is what comes up in a Business Plus dialog box: (please let me know if there's anything confidential here that I shouldn't be giving out!)

then, on clicking OK, I get another dialog with:

The test script failed to execute on the web server. The error could be caused by several things. Check:
                                - the 'Path to the Perl shell'
                                - the 'CGI script extension'
                                - the 'Path to CGI-BIN'
                                - the 'CGI-BIN URL'
                                - the amount of web space left on your server
                                - if your server is configured to accept POSTs to CGI scripts
                                - the permissions on the server:
On Linux/Unix based servers the permissions should be:
                                cgi-bin (755)– drwxr-xr-x
                                Online Store Folder (755)– drwxr-xr-x
On Windows based servers (need to be checked with the hosting company):
                                IIS
                                cgi-bin = read/execute
                                Online Store Folder = read/write/execute
                                NTFS
cgi-bin = Catalog's FTP account needs 'Change' permissions on the directory
Online Store Folder = Catalog's FTP account needs 'Change' permissions on the directory AND the IUSR_<servername> account needs to have 'Change' permissions on the directory
The second one seems to be a red-herring, but does the first one help explain what my email problem is at all?

                                Thanks,
                                Phil
                                Kind regards,
                                Phil Benjamin
