    Network Setup (Webfusion)

    Hi,

My hosting is with Webfusion and the server details are:

    Operating system
    RedHat linux 7.3
    Web server
    Apache 1.3.27
    Scripting language
    PHP 4.3.10
    Scripting language
    SunONE ASP 3.6.2
    CGI Scripting language
    Perl 5.6.1
    Database server
    MySQL 3.23.56
    Mail server
    Exim 3.36

My cgi-bin permissions are set to 755.

I am trying to upload my new Actinic cart for the first time but am getting errors using the Configure Web Site Details wizard as follows:

Size:	51.0 KB

I then looked manually at the Network Setup and have configured it as follows. This was from reading a number of posts on here about possible setups and paying particular attention to other Webfusion users.

However, I am still getting an error when I do Test. The error is as follows:

    Any ideas please anyone

    Thanks,

Yes, I spent yesterday looking firstly through 'network setup' posts and then 'webfusion' posts. I got some ideas of what to try changing but still have not found anything that works for me.

I have also looked at the Webfusion help section on Actinic. What they specify for the paths etc.. doesn't work for me either.

Webfusion network settings are here Copy them into your network stup and change the urls, passwords etc for your owm. The main differnce with webfusion is the use of the public_html directory.

          Hi there,

Thanks for your reply. Yep, I saw that one yesterday and tried those settings with no luck. I just tried them again just in case and here they are to show you in case I made any mistakes:

The best thing to do is export your network settings to a text file and then copy and paste them into the forum. Many of the people here can spot the errors and I must admit I don't find all these screenshots very helpful. (although yours is much more legible than the one Malcolm posted in the other thread).

There are a few things you ought to tidy up:

            1. You're using a fixed IP address for your ftp. Most people use ftp.yourdomain.co.uk. See Malcolms settings.

            2. You appear to be using an external smtp server. This would normally be the smtp server of your host. Again, see Malcolms settings.

            3. I'm not convinced about the path from cgi-bin to acatalog as viewed by the ftp server. The settings you have implies acatalog inside the cgi-bin directory. try clearing this or putting .. in front of the leading /

I would agree with Mike's #3 above - that path looks suspicious - though it appears to be the same in Malcolm's earlier post.

The other thing that may be work trying is using the .cgi extension instead of the .pl for the scripts.

                Thank you for your help.

Things definitely improved after I changed the SMTP part

I also removed the 'Path from CGI-BIN to acatalog Directory as viewed by the FTP Server' and this time left it blank and also tried .cgi and so on.

The 'Test' part of the Network Setup is now working. Thanks.

The settings I used are as follows:

                Catalog URL:
                http://www.dfordog.com/acatalog/

                CGI-BIN URL:
                http://www.dfordog.com/cgi-bin/

                Codebase:
                ./

Path from CGI-BIN to acatalog Directory:
                ../public_html/acatalog/

                Server host:
                ftp.dfordog.com

                Path to CGI-BIN:
                /cgi-bin/

Path from CGI-BIN to acatalog Directory as viewed by the FTP Server:
I have now left this blank

                Use Passive FTP Transfers:
                ticked

                Extension:
.pl (or I also tried .cgi)

                Website URL:
                http://www.dfordog.com

                Path to the Perl shell:
                /usr/bin/perl

                SMTP Server:
                mail.dfordog.com

                Username:
                pop.info-42

Now for the not so good news. I then tried to run the wizard again and am getting the same error as before.

I did it step by step and it seems to be failing at the Perl path and/or Perl extension part of things.

                Any ideas again please

If the test button reports success, there is no need to run the wizard again. Connect to your ftp server using an ftp programme - right click the acatalog and cgi-bin folders and choose properties to view and change the permissions.

Set acatalog to 777 or read, write, execute in every column, set cgi-bin to 755 or read, write, execute in the first column - followed by two columns of read, execute.

Then click the upload button in Actinic.

                    according to Malcolms network settings

Path from CGI-BIN to acatalog Directory as viewed by the FTP Server: should be

                    /public_html/acatalog/

Malcolm - could you export webfusions network settings to txtfile and upload to a thread for reference, the screen dump is hard to read

                      Hi,

                      Thanks again for the help.

I have set acatalog to 777 and the cgi-bin was already 755, so that is OK.

Yes, the Test is working OK technically. I am not getting the actual email but presume that is a case of me sorting out my mailboxes

I am still concerned that the wizard doesn't complete. What about the rest of the stages that it never gets to e.g. email setup?

                      Thanks again.

                      Jenny

PS I got a reply from Webfusion support and they said

Most of the settings look fine however there are a couple that you may wish to check:

Path from CGI-BIN to acatalog Directory:
                      ../public_html/acatalog/

Path from CGI-BIN to acatalog Directory as viewed by the FTP Server:
I have now left this blank

Judging by the way that these are worded, I would suggest that the first refers to a URL-type relational link in which case the path from www.dfordog.com/cgi-bin to www.dfordog.com/acatalog would be:

                      ./acatalog

Likewise, the path you provided would probably be what needs to be in the second one as the path as viewed via the FTP server.

Have you tried to upload using all the settings as in Malcolms working example?

the thing to prioitise is the cgi-bin.

Once this is recognised you can sort out email and possibly the wizard

                          Hi Jo,

Yes, all set up like Malcolm's. Here are my settings:

                          Catalog URL:
                          http://www.dfordog.com/acatalog/

                          CGI-BIN URL:
                          http://www.dfordog.com/cgi-bin/

                          Codebase:
                          ./

Path from CGI-BIN to acatalog Directory:
                          ../public_html/acatalog/

                          Server host:
                          ftp.dfordog.com

                          Path to CGI-BIN:
                          /cgi-bin/

Path from CGI-BIN to acatalog Directory as viewed by the FTP Server:
                          /public_html/acatalog/

                          Use Passive FTP Transfers:
                          unticked

                          Extension:
                          .pl

                          Website URL:
                          http://www.dfordog.com/

                          Path to the Perl shell:
                          /usr/bin/perl

                          SMTP Server:
                          mail.dfordog.com

                          Username:
                          pop.info-42

I get almost all through the wizard now but right at the end at the email setup it fails.

I have been trying different settings all day and still am getting no emails and also am getting errors at various stages of the wizard. There seems to be no pattern. Sometimes it fails half way through and sometimes it lets me get all the way to the final email setup part.

I don't know what else to try

that pop.info username is the same one you were using with the other SMTP server. Have you been to the D for Dog control panel and set up an account name and password for use on the website?

You need to use an account name and password that has the right to send and receive mail on D for Dog.
