    Any progress?

I am having exactly the same issues with this:

    * Trial download of DWCS3
    * Actinic Business v. 8.5.1 Build HFUA
    * Fairly standard high-spec machine running XP Professional
    * No previous install of Dreamweaver on this machine

The "Actinic" menu appears fine in the menu bar in Dreamweaver, but all the entries are greyed-out with the exception of "Help", which just raises an error message about not being able to find the Help file. Very helpful.

No "Edit this layout in Dreamweaver" button in the Design tab of Actinic.

Everything appears well in the Adobe Extensions Manager - Actinic extension looks correctly installed, is ticked as operational, etc.

Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both DW and Actinic - in both orders! - but still the same problems.

Any progress from Actinic on this? Any more insights from the wider community? It does seem (from scanning several threads over the past few months) that peoples' experiences vary somewhat, with some people having no problems and others having the same frustrations as me?

As ever, BIG thanks in advance for any help!

    Neill.

I had the same problem...trawled the forums...followed all of the advice, as you did...had exactly the same end result each time and gave up!

I'll watch this thread now though

Earlier in the thread I had the facility, but following a re-install of DW3 am now in the position where I do not have the 'Edit in Dreamweaver'.

As Neill, I have checked the installation in the Extensions Manager and it appears to be alright, and ticked!

Like Tracey, who I seem to be following around the forum now, I shall await the next development!

OK - with Dreamweaver CS3 the following should happen

          1) The 'Actinic' menu in Dreamweaver should appear and function correctly for registering designs. nacotton - I'm wondering if your issues are that you are looking at the menu with an unsaved document (or no document open).

          2) The 'Edit Layout In Dreamweaver' button will not appear UNLESS you have installed CS3 over the top of a previous DW version, without uninstalling the previous one first.

The second issue will be fixed in the next maintenance release of v8.

oh...so if you're new to DW and CS3 is your starting point...it's a no-go then?

            great

so much for my 30 day trial

            oh well...

It's not a total no-go - you just don't get the 'Edit Layout With Dreamweaver' button. Everything else works OK.

                Ah... I see...

                Chris,

My apologies for not posting a reply sooner - I've been hibernating. Many thanks for clearing things up. You are right and I am (obviously) a real DW beginner. Once I'm working on a document that has been saved, the Actinic menu in DW now works just fine.

Look forward to the maintenance update of Actinic v.8.5 with the "Edit this Layout in Dreamweaver" button working - any ideas when this will be, for folk like me who've finally got around to converting from FrontPage to DW primarily because of its links into Actinic, but who are new to DW as at CS3?

Tracey, thanks for your company on this little journey.

                Cheers aye, Neill.

                  Hi there,

Am BRAND new to Actinic and have been delighted to find these threads... thanks to all who've been good enough to post to help others - it's good to see.
Was wondering if the 'Edit Layout With Dreamweaver' issue has been fixed yet?
Or, more specifically, is the next maintenance release of v8 out yet?

                  thanks in advance

                    Hi Evleen

The 8.5.2 is undergoing testing at the moment. You can expect a beta in a few weeks.

We're just building and testing beta candidates at the moment. Hopefully we'll have one ready to roll this week.

                          Hi
I have an 'edit in dreamweaver' button in actinic v10 (and CS3) but I am not able to edit as I presume 'edit in dreamweaver' means. When I click 'edit layout in dreamweaver (when the 'home' page in actinic is up) it opens dreamweaver but not with the layout, i.e. graphical webpage; it just opens up a 'code' page which I am not able to edit, because I cannot edit code!
I presumed that I would be able to edit the page just as I would if I had been working on an html page in dreamweaver (regardless of actinic being used or not).
I need to be able to 'edit' text links/email links and images on an existing page and the only was I can do it is to have the 'remote veiw' of the files in Dreamweaver and edit which ever page a require to edit, then upload to the server (from dreamweaver). However because this is done 'outside' of actinic, when I sync via Actinic it just writes over the newly edited page with the existing un-edited actinic page.
I know all the above sounds a bit dis-jointed (and it may well be) but all I want to be able to do is edit an html page like I would my own non-actinic sites. I have taken over a site from a web designer and I and struggling though the best I can.

                          Please help!

You are much better off editing the html within the Actinic Design pages than using DW. DW is best to integrate and register a new design in Actinic but after that it is far easier just to edit within the Actinic Design pages. |

If you edit Actinic generated pages outside of Actinic and upload they will, as you have found out, get overwritten by Actinic. The layouts in Actinic act as templates when Actinic generates the page source code for uploading.

                              design problems

                              Hi
So if I am right, and having problems with editing the design, the previous designer must have designed the site IN dreamweaver and then registered with Actinic that may explain why I am having so much trouble tying to edit the page designs WITHIN Actinic?
In the image I have added are sections (on the left) for 'our services' and below, 'Product selections' I am able to edit the 'Product Selections' no problem but UNABLE to edit the 'Our Services' at all, not in dreamweaver, not in Actinic.
Do you know what the problem would be here.
I almost feel like starting again due to the headache and not having to have a steep learning curve by jumping into the middle of someone else's site. Thing is the site IS live and even though its a bit incomplete is really does need to be live!!!

                              Thanks again

All the code is available in Actinic Design view regardless of whether it was originally done in DW or not. When you click on the object you wish to edit you should then see the code in the window below. Actinic is made up of nested layouts that go together to make a page and you may have to 'drill down' to find the code details.
