If the site was released to the client last July then 8.0.0 would have been the current release thus the decision to upgrade lies with the client, if however the site was released to the client in the last month, it should have been released in 8.5.1

    2 options

in this situation the designer should take his version of the site and upgrade it to 8.5.1 HFUA and re release back to his client

    or

should take back the client's 8.5.1 and correct the errors.

taking into account merging order history and products

The designer purchased the software 28th February 2007 http://community.actinic.com/showpos...72&postcount=2 .. don't recall the exact patch release dates but should have been well beyond 8.0.0.0.0.0 GMVA

i will now go back to my designer and leave the decision with him what to do
obviouly he cant upgrade my site without having to rebuild it because of the different issues with 8.0 so he will have to make the decision whether to build on 8.5.1. and then hand over to me
then i can continue with this version for the forseeable future.
          thanks for all your help.
unfortunately as i take over management of my site, ill will no doubt be back on the forum for help occassionaly. this help has been invaluable. much better than the actinic help.
          thanks again.

                  this is untrue

the site does not have to be rebuilt, it can be upgraded...

                  indeed i've upgraded 5 to 8, 6 to 8 and 7 to 8, so 8 to 8 is a walk in the park

Indeed.. and quickly looking around your site this should be quite painless and can be done in a few hours (allowing for suspending orders, checking conversion and handing it over) and probably less.

if my site can be upgraded from 8.0 to 8.5.1. is that not what i have been trying to do!!
how is importing my site from 8.0 to 8.5.1. different to upgrading
can you explain how this is done please.
i obiously have been doing things wrong cos im no expert and my designer has not used this software before he usually uses another cart software, so its a learning curve.
sorry for sounding thick, but when i get it, i get it and ill be away!!
my designer will upgrade but i presume we need to know how.

Just import your 8.0 snapshot into 8.5.1 and cross your fingers.
SNAPSHOT | IMPORT is all you need to do.

If that messes up and makes a terrible mess, then contact your designer and ask him to do it for you, you really shouldn't be left with the this mess to sort out.

i will ask my man to do it and see if this helps.
either way ill have to do all my updates again!

How can you have done any updates to it anyway, you can't even get it to install?

                                yes i did
                                originally i downloaded v8.5.1.
then i got my website file from my designer.
then i imported it to actinic
i thought it was all ok. i could see it and add all my new items.
then when we went to refresh my website with it, it was all there but the checkout wont work and the cart button doesnt show items added to it.
and the store section arnt there down the left hand side. so we have the problem of why these things wont work when they did before.
                                you see what a mess!!

i think i need professional help!!!!!!!
