    Hello,

We upgraded to v9.03 and have had three crashes and dmp messages already. I thought I'd check if anybody else had this problem before contacting support on Monday.

Having read this thread obviously I will just have to put up with it until v9.04!

    Have a great weekend,

I hope everyone who gets them now speaks up.

In fairness to Actinic, if we do not tell them, then how can they know what a problem these are. It's the whole drawn out process of reporting them that is at fault. I say take the top 10 people experiencing these, give them an email address to send them straight to and have someone sitting there exclusively working on them.

Site Options and Selectors cause the vast majority of these IMO, I can create a DMP file at will in Site Options (The Links Tab is the worst). The stupid thing is that if you open it back up straight after and do the exact same thing again, it works fine - that's what baffles me. A permanent error I can accept, intermittent buggers just drive you nuts.

852, 853, 901, 902, 903 - all the same in this area for me and on completely different systems too. There is a common denominator though of course which is me......i'll get my coat.

              Just to add my bit

I have 15 starting from 9-12-08 and more on anther pc that is at work.

I don't take any notice of them as actinic works fine after you re open it.

I can add a lot as well. As Lee says almost every time it happens restarting Actinic and it works OK. Very frustrating,

Truth be told, the sole reason I don't waste all day, every day reporting the crashes and supplying DMP files, writing fifty essays explaining what happened, etc - is because after personally spending 2+ years working with Actinic and the amount of serious time these crashes cause - I know once push comes to shove, we'll jump ship and start again using a rival ecommerce platform.

In fact I think both of our companies agreed that if this continues through to the 'final' release of v9 or end of 2009 (whichever first) - then we will have no option but to change ecommerce systems in ~11 months.

After recently starting to help out another company who use Actinic, I'd be reluctant to change systems tbh.

                    Such is the life

I have crashes on about every third upload have now been speaking to Support for weeks with no solution at all.

Mole End's stock control module is now useless as the crashes are so frequent it can not do the uploads. We also have a linked database so every time is crashes it takes on average 10 minutes to load.

I think that this should be Actinics top priority - the software in its current state is hardly useable and wastes many hours of our time every week. I can not recommend version 9.03 to anyone until this is resolved.

                        Mark,

We are adding a feature to the Stock Control Mole to kill an Actinic that has crashed but not closed properly (this I believe is the side effect of the crashes that effects upload and download) to allow the tool to run correctly next time - if Actinic crashes everytime you upload, this won't help but if it is intermittent then it will.

With regard to dmp files, it's definitely worth sending them into Actinic, using them you can see the exact line of code that was running when the application crashes, which means that it even if the crash can't be reproduced but can almost always change the code to stop the crash happening again.

The other thing to make clear is that the dump files don't in anyway cause crashes, they are automatically generated as the application crashes, so even if Actinic stopped creating dump files, the crashes would continue to occur.

I can see that it's a PITA to keep sending these files in though, I wonder what could be done to make it easier. One problem is that the crashes are going to be different for each person, so to fix them all up as many people as possible should send them in but as someone said earlier it does take time to do it, so most people don't send them in.

                        Regards,

9.0.3 was tested extensively before it was released and also had customer involvement and it was found to be a lot more stable than v9.0.2. Can you all let me know what version you are on currently (ie 9.0.2, 9.0.3 etc)? If you are on 9.0.3 upgraded from 9.0.2 are the crashes more frequent now, less frequent or about the same.

It's not really rocket science to work out that if Actinic need these to help fix their application, then they need to ensure they get as many as possible sent to them. I mentioned months ago these could be sent automatically, much in the same way that MS give you the option after a failure to send a report. In Actinic's opinion the number of sites affected is minimal, the fact is probably far nearer to 'the maximum'. Before any better ways to send these off are discussed or put in place, the software company itself needs to be made aware of how bad and unstable this part actually is and accept the problem?

In addition it also needs to be solved as to why an application that has apparently crashed, can continue to upload for over an hour in the background after the event - a rather important point seemingly completely ignored thus far.

Given the effort that went into 903, many people including myself have held back somewhat on saying too much, because we knew how much time, effort, money and sweat had gone into this version. That is history now though and we are looking forward to 904. However nice or patient you want us to be, this problem must be identified, admitted to and fixed in this version.

I NEVER had any dmp's before I used 9.0.3 but get them all the time now (3 today) - I have also noticed that I now get them in V8 when again I never had any before[/FONT]

Tracey it stems back to V8, it's not a V9 exclusive issue for me. Site options in V9 is incredibly unstable, but DMP files exist on all versions. 902 & 903 are identical in this area for me. As you can see from the attached file.
