I totally understand what you want to do, however in order to give you the solution, i will need answers to the questions i asked. Its impossible for me to give you a definite solution unless you do this as i do not know whether you charge per item or per order etc. I could also do with a real example of when this does not work and the details on those products that fail.

Off the top of my head i would have 2 shipping bands:

    0.10 kg - £0.00
    10Kg - £2.95

I would then put 0.01kg (make sure you put 0.01) as weight on every gift voucher. Reason for 0.01 on product and 0.10 in shipping band is to cover if somebody orders more than 1 gift voucher.

Then set default weight to 0.25kg i.e. if you do not put a weight in on a product, it will assign this to every one.

This would then give me the following scenario:

If i purchase a gift voucher on its own, its weight is 0.01, so i will be charged £0.00

If i purchase 4 gift vouchers, their combined weight will be 0.04, so i will be charged £0.00

If i purchase a product on its own, then it will weigh 0.25, so i will be charged £2.95

If i purchase 3 products, then they will weigh 0.75, so i will be charged £2.95

If i purchase a product plus a gift voucher, then the weight will be 0.26, so i will be charged £2.95

    and finally.......

If i purchase 3 products plus a gift voucher, the weight will be 0.76, so i will be charged £2.95

I am presuming things here as i don't have the full info, if you can provide the info mentioned i will confirm a final solution.

Couples of things i noticed on your site

When i went to your checkout the SSL certificate Authority image is not working

Checkout is one word also, not check out

And the guaranteed option you provide is an input box, not a yes or no choice, this could be confusing. Do you want them to type yes or no in the field?

Why not set the weight of the voucher product to 0.00kg so no matter how many are added (however unlikely someone may order 10000) it will always equate to £0.00.

Helen - check you are now using the "take highest value in the table" being ticked

Hi Jont, i have done it that way cos to be honest i am not 100% sure how Actinic treats 0.00 weights with £0.00 cost, if there is a loophole or a bug, then this way would remove it. I feel that Helen has not set this up correctly personally, however if she goes through it all and then a bug or loophole of some kind is identified, the girl may just top herself lol.

I agree with you and was thinking the same as i wrote it, just thought it'd be the best way in case there is a problem in that area.

If i had read or undoubtedly knew than 0.00 and £0.00 worked, then i would concur with your idea.

          Hi guys

Thank you SO, SO much for getting back to me. I'm at the warehouse now so I'm away from the site maintenance pc so what I'll do is, once I get back to the office pc I'll have another go at uploading (with the "take highest value in the table" ticked!). I'll then try placing test orders and make an exact note of any error messages/problems and report back. Hopefully Lee I'll then be able to give you accurate answers!

This is part of the problem where I just don't have time to sit and "play" with actinic in order to crack it! I have to be in two places during the day (sometimes it feels like both at once!).

Lee - thanks for the bits on the site you've noticed. I know about the picture not working (on my "fix it" list!). Typo easy to fix - hopefully once we get this solution working, I won't need the guaranteed service box there anymore anyway. Can't say I've had problems with customers being confused - they either type yes, no or leave it blank.

Anyway - will get back as soon as I can and thanks both of you - my sanity may be saved after all! Regards - Helen

Helen if you know how to do screen prints, do those rather than try to relay info in text, image is much quicker and easier for all involved.

It works fine - I have message cards set up as 0.00kg as well as other "free" shipping items such as event bookings all set at zero weight with £0.00 shipping.

Helen - I am convinced you either have a rogue product weight in there or are not using the "take highest value" as what both I and Lee have shown should and will work

Thanx Jont, nice to know that someone uses that feature and it definitely works.

Helen, lets stick to Jonts method then as this will work just as you want it to. I am 99% sure your problems are to do with something you are setting, not actinic problems.

                Together we shall crack it.

Dudes - I'm back! I'm 100% sure as well that it's definitely down to user error - it's just that actinic and the way it's set up can be extremely confusing for somebody who doesn't do much more than just adding/removing products.

Before I start the upload, I'll make sure that "take the highest value" is ticked - but is the structure of the classes/zones that I've mentioned correct? This is the only "new" feature that I want to appear in checkout - I don't want a country drop down at all.

                  Regards - Helen

I'm wanting to promote one item with free p+p too and this thread gives a good explanation of achieving that with weight based shipping.

However, I need orders under £40 to be charged £4.99 for shipping unless they're ONLY the promoted product. I'm struggling to find a way to do that using weight based shipping.

                    Anyone got any ideas?

OH MY GOD - BY JOVE I think we've cracked it!!!

It's working (imagine me dancing round in circles punching the air!!).

I've placed a few test orders:

                      1. Gift voucher - UK - no p&p charged!
                      2. Just stuff - UK - £2.95 charged!
                      3. Gift voucher and stuff - UK - £2.95 charged!
                      4. Just stuff - Germany - message displays saying we'll contact with correct p&p!

I've also tried combinations of UK guaranteed service, international gift voucher etc and all seems to be well. Some of the text needs a bit of tidying up - removing brackets etc but at least IT'S ALIVE!!

I guess I'm stuck with the country drop down - is there no way of just having UK - Eire - Europe or do you have to populate it with all the european countries? And where do I get rid of "none of the above" that's at the bottom of the list? Basically "if it aint on the list, we don't ship there" so having this could still allow orders to come through that we don't want to ship to.

You guys have been fantastic - I can't thank you enough. I'm now going off to place even more test orders, I just can't believe it's working!!

Now a very happy bunny indeed - Regards, Helen (now older and wiser but with many more grey hairs!).

Thanks everyone - couldn't have done it without you! Thanks for the link for the "none of the above" fix - have managed to get rid of that little tinker as well! I've tidied up all the text and hope/think it's all now crystal clear and have tested every combination I can think of to ensure no glitches.

Well the proof is in the pudding - have checked orders this morning and already gift certificates are selling!! So I'm double chuffed.

Cheers and virtual beers all round! Regards - Helen
