    Help

Can someone please help I am having a nightmare with this software and getting no where with Actinic or my web designers.

I have had numerous problems from the start and since I got this software in February I think it has not worked.

I have removed the software from my computer and reinstalled it so i can upload the new website from the designers. However when I install now it is installing differently from the last times I have done it. And when installed and you click shortcut it comes up with UNABLE TO LOCATE THE DATABASE FOR THE SELECTED SITE. THE SITE WILL REMAIN UNCHANGED. And this will not allow actinic to open. I am now at a loss over the whole situation as Actinic have been going to phone me for quite a few days now.

    Again any help most appreciated.

Sounds like it has not unistalled correctly - uninstal again and restart the PC. Instal Actinic and try again.

      Welcome Julia. Some questions initially:

What version and what software do you have? (eg UK Business 7.0.5?)
What shortcut are you talking about, was it installed when you installed Actinic or is it a shortcut given to you by your designers?
Did your designers give you a snapshot to import?
Why did you have to remove the software from your computer - what was the problem before?
Have you ever uploaded this site succcessfully before? (From this computer)

I have done this three times today I though maybe I wasnt unistalling all components, but have searched whole computer and everthing was gone so installed again and same thing happening.

Dont understand because it is installing differently as well. Stating that it is in a different country and my setting will be different for the T&C etc.

              Hi

There is nothing on box or disc to say what version all I know is it is CatV7 actinic ecommerce.

The shortcut is the icon on desktop that pops up after install.
Yes my designers gave me a snapshot but have given me another two since as the other ones had faults as well.
I removed it from my computer last time as they were having problems with the Act_SearchTemplate.html and Act_Primary.html. Some problems had been enhanced via my designers not shutting MS access when taking snapshot of site.

To be honest I have 3 snapshots of errors that was happening which i have saved on my computer.
And No is the answer to last question I have not been able to use this software properly yet.

              Cheers

Sounds like the problems are being caused by your designers not the software - they may have corrupted the database.

Do you have access to another PC? - if so you could install Actinic from new as a trial to see if the problem is related to your PC.

Yes I could go to my dads and install it there and see what happens, I dont know that much about computers but saying that I can find my way round and sort most problems out and I had a feeling that from the beginning it was down to designers and not software.

The corrupt files could they be in the ftp file as last week when i tried to upload products it got so far then stop at creating directory and then just disappeared of the screen so that it wasnt even uploading?

Is there a possability that when i try this later i could contact you on you email under you sig.

                  Cheers

Try a fresh install of actinic, then test the default install to check it works. ie the problems you encountered with the snapshot do not apply to the default install.

If you are happy with the default install, then import the shapshot, I assume you have v7 and the snapshot is also v7.

If the problems continue, document what you have done and contact your designer

before you uninstall, go to network settings, export the network settings save them to disk, outside the actinic install.

After you have done you clean install without anything from your designer, go back to network settings, import the file you just saved and see if the upload works.

If it does and the site looks ok in the websoace, the problem is more likely to be with the snapshot, if the default install and upload fails then it might be your install.

If Actinic installs correctly on a new PC - I see no reason why it will not as Actinic install faults are few and far. DO NOT import the snapshot but transfer the network settings to the new PC and upload the default Actinic Shop, this will show that the software is working ok - I am sure that this will work.

If it does then the fault lies with the designers and you will have the proof to pass it back to then. They should be able to upload the site from their end - do not accept another snapshot untill they have replaced the Actinic default shop you uploaded with a fully functioning website.

                          Hi Jo

I have been trying to sort this since i first got the software back in I think february of this year and when I also paid the designers for the work done.

Unfortunately it has been one thing after another one minute working next its not. I have been bouncing between the designers and software company and to be honest had no reply from software company.

The designers phoned me on thursday to say and actinic engineer was going to phone from america but he did not then I was told on friday that he would phone my workplace between the hours of 3pm and 10pm so i waited and nothing happened.

This is why now I am on this forum trying to work it out myself as I am desparate to have my shop online. http://www.blingmotors.co.uk

I am trying to find out who really needs to sort these problems out and if I have good circumstance to go back to designers and demand that they sort it really.

                          Cheers

Ok have now got it too install on my machine as well as my dads, on my computer I had not uninstalled it correctly.

But now I am back to square one it installs with no problems at all now.

The only problem is I have an error coming up in the update website stage which is as follows.

Warning: Some of the configuration variables were not found in the HTML templates. If you modified these templates, make sure the results are what you want. If you have not modified the templates, the files are probably corrupt. Try restoring them from a backup or contact your Actinic reseller or Actinic Support as appropriate.

                              Act_SearchTemplate.html SEARCHPROMPT, RETAILONLYWARNING
                              Act_Primary.html ONLOAD

The above message has always been there even when it was working for a couple of days. However now after this has appeared on the screen the update of products stops at CREATING DIRECTORY STRUCTURE then disappears off screen and the test product I have tried to load has not made it to the website.

                              Cheers
