So if the servers are ruled out and the same Paypal account works on one site but not on another then the only thing that is left that I can think of is the content of the IPN, which is not recognised in all cases by Actinic.

Does the order number form part of the IPN?
Do the failing sites have modified order numbers?
Is there a checksum on the IPN?
Does anyone know what the actual content of the IPN is?

Site 2 - PayPal completing - Pinbrook - Shared Server
Site 3 - PayPal not completing - Pinbrook - Shared Server
      So,

This suggest to me the problem:

      a) Isn't with the server or installed software.

      and

      b) Isn't with Paypal alone (but could be a combination with Actinic).

the area that I wonder about is whether the two sites have the same paypal settings in Actinic (and paypal if different accounts?).

Can you check the settings and see if they're identical on both the working and non-working site?

Yes, the settings are identical on both sites on the shared server and both use the same PayPal account.

Are the versions of Perl, etc identical on both of these shared servers or any other slight differences that might give a clue to the cause of the problem.

              Hi All,

Just to give you an update, PayPal are continuing to look into the issue. We also have our developers looking into it as well.

At present we are unsure what has changed, but as soon as we know we will let you know.

              I will keep you updated.

FYI: if anyone needs any info on a working catalog, I have one.

I cant think of a decent way to compare it to a broken one however. I dont know perl and i have no idea where to start.

                :/

                  Perl on a broken server:
                  Code:
                  # perl -v

This is perl, v5.8.5 built for i386-linux-thread-multi
                  Perl on a working server:
                  Code:
                  # perl -v

This is perl, v5.8.8 built for i686-linux

                    Hi Gabriel,

If you upload a willow.pl file into the cgi-bin of your website, this will tell us the version of Perl you are using and also the type of server ect.

Also, what hosting company are you with?

Did you have to do anything to resolve the issue, or did the call backs just start working again?

                        PayPal payment status: Refunded

                        Hi All

                        We're also getting failed IPNs.

This started happening on the 17th September. The number of error messages in our site errorlog seems to have increased significantly from the 24th for some reason.

When checking through our errorlog I noticed the following message appearing a few times:

                        "PayPal payment status: Refunded"

I'm mystified as to why we should get such an error message.

Can anyone shed any light on it please? Could it be related to the issue of the PayPal IPN's failing at all?

                        Thanks
