      Hi all,

Just to give you an update, our developers are still doing testing at our end and are also in communication with PayPal.

Zoltan's explaination above summarises are thoughts from a technical point of view.

I can assure you we are taking this matter very seriously.

          Hi All,

Just to keep you updated, a merchant has kindly agreed to upload to our Actinic servers with their site to see if the same problem occurs. If the problem continues we are going to do some debugging.

I will let you know what the result of this is.

Thanks for your kind offer, but the problem does not occur for our QA departments sites / servers, so we have confirmed that our integration still works as designed. We just need to do some testing on this one broken merchant's site.

I will keep you all updated.

                  settings for IPN

Right, after playing with this, I've forgotten the setting required at paypal end.

I THINK the ipn should be dissabled as per this screenshot

                  tell me i'm right please.....

It is frustrating that after a week we do not seem to be much further forward.

I rang PayPal last Friday, just to help keep them aware that there are unhappy people waiting for this to be fixed.

They said that only Actinic users are experiencing this problem (and as we know, not all Actinic users).

The perl script side of things is beyond me. I just hope that someone has a brainwave soon!

error messages on server, for info.

it seems a server at 66.211.170.66 - thats the paypal server for ipn AFAIK is getting the following entry in the error log file on my server (not the actinic error file):

[Sat Oct 2 18:27:13 2010] [error] [client 66.211.170.66] Premature end of script headers: /hsphere/local/home/legend99/legendgames.co.uk/cgi-bin/os000001.pl

and this in the raw file (not same transaction - sorry....):

                            66.211.170.66 - - [03/Oct/2010:15:36:25 +0100] "POST /cgi-bin/os000001.pl?PATH=%2e%2e%2facatalog%2f&SEQUENCE=3&ACTION=AUTHORIZE_900&CARTID=93Z97Z172Z60A1286111639B28897&ON=MG32DA10002226&TM=0&AM=2327&ACT_POSTPROCESS=1& HTTP/1.0" 500 3560 "-" "-"

look at the string that is posted: it ENDS after the ACT_POSTPROCESS=1 name pair, you get the & for the next name pair, but it isnt being posted. so from what i can tell, thats the 'notification URL' only, without the IPN message added on to it. Sadly my logs only go back to 28th sept, so I cant grab one that worked to check if the format has changed.!!!!!

So, to me, logically, the script is not getting the big blob of data it expects as name pairs. which is what i said i thought last week.... though i did read somewhere that the IPN makes contact, gets a response, tehn sends teh message - but i could be wrong.

anyone with a site where IPN works tell us what they are getting in the logs please?

My IPN has been working fine and found this line for a recent Paypal payment in the Raw Access Log which looks the same as your apart from mine has 200 2 and your has 500 3560 near to the end (where 200 = OK, 500 = Error I assume)

Well 500 is an internal server error (ACT_POSTPROCESS=1& HTTP/1.0" 500 3560) the messages I can see coming back have status of 200 which is OK so it appears that the server (66.211.170.66 resolves to an ebay server and is the same in my response message) is returning an error code to your POST message.

This type of response is also received from other PSP's with some minor differences within the message detail.
