    Problems uploading

ugh..much as it pains me to say it!!

I've had problems uploading BB ALL morning.

It kept stalling at sending the catalog files.

So, I searched the forums etc and found a few things to do.

I did a purge and refresh, including .cat and .fil files which resulted in a successful purge but still a stall at the A000282.cat files.
(so, I now have a non working website )

Then I tried removing all the cat files from via FTP to enable a "clean" upload again... stilll stalling at A000282.cat

I tried a Web > Generate Website Files followed by a Web > Send Files

    STILL stalling at A000282.cat

I did compact the database when my upload first stalled (it was doing a full site upload when it first failed, uploading every page as a result of a main layout change) and I've also tried a compact and repair through Access itself but with no change.

Anyone got any other ideas I can try?
I am going to call support when my snapshot (number god-knows-what!) is done but thought I'd post on the forum too because...well, you know!

    Thanks
    Tracey

90% sure to be a hosting problem, one of which you can do sod all about i expect. Servers are getting slammed at the moment and performance is down. I have a site which normally has 700 visitors a day, currently experiencing 2,500 a day and it peaked at over 3,000 last week.

Sit tight and work on your products and just ignore the fact that your site is not live and you are not making any money - oh ok that won't work, go shopping instead.

      LOL thanks, Lee!!
I have to admit the more it goes on, the more I'm inclined to think it's a hosting problem too...I did just manage a "Send Files" that got further...as far as difftext.fil...and then quit on me

Trouble is..I can't work on another site and keep trying to upload this one!
I guess all I can do is keep trying to upload....until it either works or I send the laptop in the direction of the window

Aren't you getting the continue using http option?

try: log into your ftp and RENAME the file. put an underscore on the end.

your server might have an issue writing to that file. disc error, or some such.

Its not actually telling me it's timing out, Lee. It's just freezing completely (not responding in blue title bar)

Gabe, I've tried deleting all the files and re-uploading and, since my first post, I have had it upload that reluctant file a couple of times since...only to have it stall later in the process instead. In fact, at one point, it uploaded ALL the .cat files but stopped at the .fil ones instead.

I can ftp fine... up and down...but Actinic just can't keep it up

Have you got any out of the ordinary ftp timeouts setup or is it standard? Network test passes ok? Actinic 'not responds' half of the time in my experience, it hates anything else happening at same time even on a dual core, i wouldn't take the not responding to mean anything unless it has been like that for half hour or so. It gets all stressed, not responds, has a drink, and then tries again with a big sigh in my experience.

not setting any time outs up at all...just the usual whatever is as standard. Network test is passing fine every time.

It's been going on for about 3 hours now

9 times out of 10 stopping on a .cat file...very occasionally getting further but not often.
Tried changing script ID but it didn't help (didn't make things worse either but, with the store not functioning anyway, I'm not sure how it could have!)

                I'm running out of ideas

Sounds like a waiting game to me, only thing i can think of is to try a different connection or skype me a snapshot and i will try it for you. You can try one of my test domains if you like.

I was considering heading home to try it there actually.. might even transfer the snapshot over to the PC to eliminate any local problems on my laptop, if it still doesn't work.

I have now had ONE actualy ftp time out warning...which, in a strange kinda way, is reassuring (I see them far too often as it is) and I've just had an upload continue to actually uploading images before stalling....without giving me one (a time out warning, that is )

It's all pointing to a hosting problem so, I guess, it's pretty much out of my hands.
I'll keep trying..thanks for the offer, Lee

last few days one of my sites took over 12 hours between the retry message and me rebooting computer

i think it was just my hosting haveing a bad day or as lee put it "getting slammed"

it got there in the end
i wish there was a tick box to allow actinic to ignore certain error messages on ftp instead of silly error box

i know mole has a plugin but actinic should have it as standard IMO
Remembering the road to Actinic enlightenment is a long and sometimes painful one.

slamming something sounds like a great idea right now!

I imported a snapshot from this morning to see if anything I'd done had affected it but no...no change (have now imported changed snapshot back in)

Still getting no error messages but all unsuccessful uploads...

Tracey when it freezes, disconnect you network connection, this will cause actinic to offer you the http option, then reinstate you connection then continue.

Might help, things i have had to do in the past, as soon as you break the connection actinic will tell you otherwise it just sits there for ages

I'm starting to wonder if it's my computer!
