I think people get worried or nervous about what services to offer or say, i think for the time being if people just say what they'd like to do/offer, we record it and then decide as a group who will do what. Some things like your Mole stuff is easy as only you do that, whereas SEO and design might have a few people willing etc.

tbh honest as i have always been a tinkerer in actinic and enjoyed doing it i must say

i have no realistic idea on the approx cost of a designed website

hence why i asked earlier for ball park figures
and i wouldnt want to insulte anyone by offering a silly amount

i will donate £100 worth of photo paper mixed from 128gm matt to 260 gloss ,to the cause either auctioned off or sent to the winner

( btw this was my thinking of "pimp that shop" sort of"), the winner gets a nice shiny new site and goodies to help in there new business

Costs are a difficult one to relate in this situation as it can vary so much, as do designer fees. Add that a price can be viewed as 'very expensive' by one client and 'incredibly cheap' the next day by another and you see the minefield that exists.

I would say that a price tag of 3-6k for that package would encompass most designers' prices. But that is not the point really cos we are giving not receiving here.

For me personally, i would like to see a minimum of £1,000 raised, if more then great but i think 1k would be a great thing for us all to be very proud about.

If we pull this off it will be remembered for years, something great for us all. If we can crack the software, the hosting and who wants a site built, i think the rest will just fall into place, they are the critical factors IMO.

              mmmmmmmmm

btw how are you going to collate the spreadsheets and image files for the design?

just a thought wont you have to agree with the "punter" to send or upload desired items a few days at least in advance?

ok...the 16th is not going to be a good day for me (darn those CiN organisers!)..I'm going to Stratford!
So I won't be around to do anything on the day

The lucky winner will go through a normal project procedure with a design spec and halfway through the day provide feedback on the design. It's critical that things start to come together halfway through the day (midday) and then move from there. Product input images and spreadsheets will all be prepared/organised before the start date and then started in the 24 hour period.

I think it's important that any groundwork and preparation can be done prior to the 24 hour period, but no work actually starts. I would like us to crack this in a 24 hour period and launch at midnight.

I know a great press officer, there might be a real outside chance of this getting a mention somewhere worthwhile and maybe our donated goods could be available for sale by midnight when we went live, instant fund raising possible? We'd need the Mole stuff to take stuff out of stock, that could be a real nightmare. At midnight i reckon we could get a mention with a web address provided on CiN.

reguarding donated goods would they not be better selling off to go towards the total or the cost of software etc?

as appose to on the site

I have to admit, I'm kinda more in favour of an "Actinic Forumites" site..with the 24 hour site design for CiN day and contributed goods for sale

There's always the possibility of restocking it for future fundraising too

I just think it could be awkward getting someone to sign up for an unknown result..but I'm happy to be wrong

Maybe me being bit dim here but are we:

                        a) looking to design a site for a client who will pay £x for the site that will be donated to CiN - client will obviously set design and have their own product range

                        or

                        b) designing a site that we (we being actinic forum members) will run whereby we design a site to our specification and sell goods donated by other forum members on it, where full retail price of goods sold are donated to CiN.

                        or combination of the 2!?

I think we're still in the either/or stage about it, Kathy

With 3 donations and no possible clients yet i think we are still open to both. If we go down the forumites website with products for sale, we need what maybe 30-40 donations at least, if we build a site for someone we need just one.

I like the idea of us owning a site and putting our products on it for sale for sure, but without enough numbers donating, it will flop. Is there a possibility to charge for help on the forum, by way of products.

Oh i don't know, we're going in circles lol.

Whichever way it goes, we need hosting and software for both, so lets try and get that sorted first. Who can we badger for hosting and software?

                                here one for you

as i said how about paying for services ~( ooohh eerrr)

eg: logo in invoices said somewhere earlier approx £100 if a new starter wanted to doante say £25 job done???

                                seo 5 pages £??? doantion of £???

Whole new site £3k+ donation £1k

if you see what i mean

i know ideally you would like to do a complete site but money is money

                                eg:

i need a banner fro top right of my site,
a decent layout on the centre of my front page
and long term some seo work and new catalogue input
