I get round most of them by using enhanced ftp and changing retries to higher and the space in between tries to be higher.

Bizarrely enough just this moment received a newsletter from DABS with subject line:

"John - Fantastic Western Digital Caviar 500GB HDD only £45.35"

.. this is an internal but you can buy an enclosure for a few quid.....

Yes, I have cracked going to bed early, it's sleeping to crack next, I sit in bed listening to erindoors snoring for about 4 hours til I drop off.
